It was around the start of the 90's, summer time, and I was going out with a lass from Lanchester, County Durham. I was staying over her house, which was a new-build on a new estate at the time, built on the site of an old hospital. Her parents were away, so us being young, we dragged the mattress out of her sister’s room and jammed hers and her sister’s mattress onto her bedroom floor. And with doing so we couldn't close the door.
I woke up in the middle of the night totally freezing (remember this was summer time), and I sat up. About a foot off the ground there was what I could only describe as a Florence Nightingale type of nurse. She came out her sister’s room, turned and looked at me then went straight through the bathroom wall. I dived up, for some reason thinking it was my girlfriend's mother back home until I realized that people can't actually disappear into a wall!
By this time my girlfriend had woke up so I told her what I had just witnessed. She replied ‘oh yeah, the house is haunted’.
Apparently the house was built on land that used to be a workhouse, also just to top it off, before it got knocked down, it was also used as a mortuary.
“I tell ya, I got that door shut!”
